Looking for Some Summer Fun? Try the 2016 Oxnard Salsa Festival!
As the summer progresses, it isn’t unusual to run out of fun things to do. You’ve been to the beach, amusement parks and the movies. When your auto insurance rate goes up, it leaves you wondering what you can do for entertainment that won’t cost much. Well, you’re in luck—the 2016 Oxnard Salsa Festival is coming up the last weekend in July.
An Annual Event
The Oxnard Salsa Festival is held each year to celebrate the local agricultural assets and cultural roots of Central California’s beach city in Ventura County. Admission is free and concerts start at only $5 – a far cry from the cost to get into a theme park or even to park your car at the beach for a day of fun.
In case you aren’t familiar with the Oxnard Salsa Festival, it’s one of the city’s top events. The two-day festival takes place at Plaza Park at Fifth and B Streets in downtown Oxnard, and vendors from all around sell salsa and other spicy food. The salsa-tasting tent, where about 500 gallons of over 50 different specialty salsas are dished up by local restaurants, Mexican markets and gourmet salsa vendors, is one of the festival’s most popular attractions. No matter your taste preference – sweet and spicy, fresh and fruity or so hot that your eyes water – you’re sure to find it at what some consider to be Ventura County’s “biggest salsa bar.”
Salsa Dancing
In addition to the salsa-tasting tent, international food, and a salsa recipe contest, the Oxnard Salsa Festival features top salsa bands, nonstop salsa dancing, shopping, a kid zone, and a “Dancing with Our Community Stars” contest.
Great Musical Acts Are Scheduled to Appear
Some of the musical acts that are scheduled to appear on stage at this year’s festival include:
• Cecilia Noel and the Wild Clams
• Lily Hernandez y Su Orquesta
• Chino Espinoza y Los Duenos Del Son
• Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca
• Conjunto Afro Son
• Dancing with Community Stars
• Son Mayor
• Orquesta Tabaco y Ron
More Than Just Great Food and Music
The Oxnard Salsa Festival is more than just great food and music. Participating in the nonstop salsa dancing on the large dance floor with dancers of all ages and skill levels is part of the fun of the festival.
The Festival kicks off Saturday, July 30, and wraps up Sunday, July 31, with the good times lasting from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. both days. So bring your appetite, your dancing shoes, and the kids for the best time in Ventura County this summer. For festival info, call (805) 247-0197 or visit www.oxnardsalsafestival.com.
Free admission and parking will make attending the Oxnard Salsa Festival easy on your wallet, but there’s no reason to keep paying car insurance rates that you can’t afford, when you could be driving with low-cost California auto insurance.
